Cosmetic dentistry treatments

Cosmetic dentistry treatments are a kind of science in themselves and require visualisation and artistic skills to create beautiful teeth and a confident smile. Dentistry is without doubt a manual profession and Dr. Spring always strives to achieve the best possible outcome.

Cosmetic composite fillings/white fillings are a cosmetic alternative to silver amalgam fillings, giving a more natural smile. White fillings bond better and can be used to reshape or rebuild broken or worn teeth.

Following preparation, the dentist places the composite in layers, typically using a special light to harden each layer. When the process is finished, the dentist will shape the composite to fit the tooth. The composite is then polished to prevent staining and early wear.

Crowns

Crowns

Crowns are a type of dental restoration that entirely covers a tooth, like a cup, and are permanently fitted by dental adhesive. Crowns restore broken, heavily-filled or teeth that have received root canal work.

Metal bonded crowns are familiar with the unattractive black lines that show over time along the gum line. This is caused by corrosion of the metal over time. It can lead to permanent discoloration of the root and staining of the gum itself.

Ceramic crowns are different. These are made entirely from porcelain which means they will never corrode and cause aesthetic problems. They are also gentle to soft tissue allowing a healthy look over many years. The core of modern crowns is made from ultra-strong ceramic which makes them as strong as the metal. These restorations can look much more natural.

Optional are less expensive metal bonded crowns.

Veneers

Dental veneers are custom-designed and made of a tooth-like ceramic material. When applied over the surface of a tooth, veneers can cover worm tooth enamel, uneven tooth alignment or spacing, chips or cracks.

Worn enamel: Over time, the thin, hard enamel may become worn, transparent, dulled or even discoloured. Such wear or discoloration may be a result of things like drinking juice, coffee, tea; smoking; etc.

Wear and tear: Our teeth wear and getting darker with age. It is natural process. Aged teeth are proven to have cracks and chips, becoming uneven as a result of grinding or general wear and tear.

Regardless of what causes your teeth appearing unattractive, dental veneer may be the solution.

Bridges

A fixed bridge is the main alternative to a partial denture.

Bridges are usually made from a precious metal base or non-metallic materials. The bridge cannot be removed once it is in place.

You can usually have a bridge if you have enough strong teeth with bone support. A bridge almost lets you forget that you have missing teeth. It can last many years if kept clean and supported by flossing and hygienist appointments.

Dentures

Dentures are the easiest way of replacing missing teeth, but some people find this uncomfortable and eventually decide to have made a bridge or placed implants.

The plate is made either of acrylic, or metal and acrylic, usually with clasps to help keep it in place. In visible areas, the clasps can be chosen in your teeth shade and the whole denture will appear natural.
